About Mississippi Jazz Foundation
The Mississippi Jazz Foundation (MFJ) is a 501 (c) 3, non-profit, community based, cultural organization. It is an evolving, young organization with energy and dedication to promoting jazz musicians and jazz education. Additionally, the organization is committed to building partnerships and cooperation with others in promoting the jazz industry in our culturally rich and diverse state. Through its membership, donors, and fundraising events, MJF has supported such worthy music educational organizations as the Academic and Performing Arts Complex of the Jackson Public Schools, Lanier High School and WJSU Radio Station at Jackson State University in recognition of their contribution to jazz education and jazz appreciation.

Mission
The mission of the Mississippi Jazz Foundation is to promote jazz music, jazz education, and jazz musicians in the Jackson Metropolitan Area and the State of Mississippi.

Vision
Mississippi Jazz Foundation’s vision is to function as a catalyst and vehicle to:

  • To encourage young, aspiring musicians by awarding scholarships and assisting them with showcasing their talents through a variety of performance venues;
  • To increase opportunities to present Jackson and Mississippi born and/or educated and trained professional jazz musicians their music;
  • To financially support educational and culturally enriching music venues that promote and communicate jazz to the public;
  • To increase media attention to the performances of local and visiting jazz artists;
  • To increase community interest/awareness and support of jazz music.
